Dear Family and Friends,
This was a good week. A verrrry good week. We worked very hard and got to see a lot of the fruits of our work at the end of the week.
1) Our super cool investigator came for the second time and brought his family (Mom, and his two sons)
2) One of the recent converts of the area who is inactive came with her nonmember mom
3) We had a family of inactive people come for their 3rd Sunday in a row! Same with a another girl.
We were thrilled. We also had another investigator waiting for the bus to come and bring him to church, but it never came, so he didn`t come, but he assured us that next week he`ll get up earlier and walk to church. Wow! We sure hope he comes. He even shaved to go! It`s amazing to see all these people who are willing to experiment with the word!
I also got to give a talk yesterday on finding those who are prepared. While I gave my talk, I came to realize that in order to find those who are prepared for the word, we first need to prepare ourselves to recieve the word! We can`t give away what we don`t have. So first we need to read our scriptures and develop faith and go to church and really become converted to the Lord and trust him with all our hearts before we can even think about helping other people.
One of our investigators this week asked us this question “When we repent and then sin again, why does God forgive us?”
WOW. What a question. Why does God forgive us?
Well, here`s what I learned about repentance. I learned that ” Becoming clean from sin is being healed spiritually” (Preach My Gospel, pg 60). I never thought of it that way, but it`s true. Sins are like a sicknesses. It`s like a virus that spreads. When we sin just a little bit, it becomes easier and easier to sin, and it gets out of control and spreads like a virus. It always starts small and grows bigger. BUT, there`s hope! We have the cure, and it`s called the Atonement. The Atonement is when Christ died for our sins, and now we can be healed spiritually through repentance.
What does that mean?
Repenance “includes forming a fresh view of God, ourselves and the world. When we repent, we feel godly sorrow, then we stop doing things that are wrong and continue doing thins that are right. Bringing gour lives in line with God`s will through repentance is a central purpose of our lives” Preach My Gospel, 62).
It means we leave the bad behind and we welcome in the good! It means we use the mercy and the grace of God to leave behind the worldy vises that grip us. It means that we become clean again throught the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It`s not easy, and it`s not comfortable at first, but it is WORTH THE PAIN, and will bring us more joy than anything else in this world. I testify of that. I know that repentance has helped me feel more at peace with myself and closer to God.
But why does he repeatedly forgive us?
I love what my companion said. She said that as a child, she would always argue with her sister, even when her mom told her not to. Well, why did her mom forgive her? Because her mom loves her.
I know that God loves us so much, and he is just begging for us to repent of our sins and become close to Him again, and that NO ONE is except from this love and foregiveness.
I love every single one of you so much! I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving, and I hope that every single one of you can stop for a minute and count all the blessings that God has given you, even the little ones. I testify that God lives, that He sent his son, Jesus Christ, on this earth to show us and provide us a way back to Him, and that through Christ, we can become clean from sins once again.
