This week is wasn`t too cold, but a little chilly. Luckily we didn`t get sick, although a lot of people in our ward got sick, including our investigator who was going to get baptized. She has pneumonia, so we are holding off on her baptism until she can at least get through an hour without coughing ever 2 minutes 🙂
However, this week we are preparing the baptism of a very cute and intelligent 9 year old. Her mother recently reactivated, and is now having desires to enter in the temple. Yanina has been waiting forever to be baptized, and now that she finally has someone willing to bring her to church, her dream can become a reality! It is amazing to see her ready willingness to do what God wants. This week we taught her about tithing. We learn from the Bible that Abraham paid tithing to the high priest of the time. In other words, he paid a 10th of what he earned to the high priest, who used the money for church matters (building churches and temples, etc). Today, we do the same. We believe in voluntarily donating a tenth of our earnings to the church. This money then goes to building temples and church buildings around the world, Book of Mormons, and other church programs that help families and youth center their lives on Christ. It really is an amazing commandment of God because when we give him just a little, he POURS down the blessings. I have witnessed this in my own life, and as one of the members shared with us this week, when she gave her last bill to pay tithing, her family and friends came around with food the very day she had nothing. God is a God of miracles. He is a God of love. And He loves us so much that when we honor him, he blesses us!
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse…and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven , and pour you about a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
God, when he asks us to sacrifice something, always has something bigger and better in store.
Sometimes he asks us to sacrifice physical things, like money.
Sometimes he asks us to sacrifice time, like in a mission.
Sometimes he asks us to sacrifice pride to repent.
Whatever he asks for, he gives back tenfold.
So, be obedient to the commandments of God, and you will never regret it. It testify of this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Con amor, Hermana Miclyn Noorda
