Week 58-April 18

Dear Family and Friends,
This week was CRAZY
I slept in my bed a total of 1 and a half nights.
It was great! After going to Pedro Juan, getting bittenç
by a bunch of ants, sleeping in a bus for two nights,
and getting home at 4 in the morning, we had 2 more
exchanges, and fully enjoyed our Sunday, in which
we announced Noelia`s wedding and baptism, and
had a new investigator come to church, and 2 less
active recent converts come to church.
The Lord blesses our area even when we can`t be there
every day. I know He is blessing us for our efforts,
and it has made me determined to keep doing the
best I can.
We have transfers this week, so we will see what happens
there. Everyone think I am leaving my area, but maybe
the Lord will throw me a curve ball.
What did I learn this week?
I learned that the gospel makes sense.
I learned that we are working for eternal life.
“And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God”(Doctrine and Covenants 14:7)
Who wants the greatest gift God has to give you? I sure do!

So what makes this eternal life so good? It`s because
eternal life is living eternally with God our Father, His son Jesus Christ, and our families.

Who wouldn`t want these blessings???

Now that`s the goal. But whenever a prize is involved, there is also a sacrifice or an effort that has to be made. In this case, the effort is keeping the commandments of God and repenting when we don`t do that. Then Christ can clean us from our sins when we repent with real intent, and through His grace, we can live eternally with our Father in Heaven in a fullness of joy.

So what happens if we don`t do that?

We find out from the Bible, which helps us understand that there is not just a heaven and a hell, but that God is really a just God.

“There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown incorruption; it is raised in incorruption” (1 Corinthians 15:40-42)

There are three kingdoms, a kingdom with glory as the sun (eternal life), a kingdom like the moon where all the good people go who maybe didn`t follow Christ exactly nor repent, and the glory of the stars, for people who deny Christ and sinned horribly their whole lives.

SO if we want the greatest gift God can give us, we have to be obedient and put Him first in our lives. I know it `s hard, but if we just do it, I promise you that you will be happier  and you will have more hope in this life. Sometimes we don`t get to see all of the blessings of following God in this life, but the blessings DO COME, whether it be now, or after death.

That is the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead in a rundown. If you have more questions, I refer you to lds.org where you can talk to missionaries online, or you can email me with more questions, and I will try my best to answer!
I love you all! Hang in there! Remember, you are all children of God, and His mercy and grace are waiting if we just are obedient.
Con amor,

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Me and my comps.

Dear Family and Friends,

SO I apologize, it has been a while. I was pretty busy, we had a few meetings to go to and then I had to pick classes for BYU, and all that cut into my email time. SO if you haven´t gotten a long letter from me lately, don´t be offended!

Anyways, this is the last week before transfers, and we´ll see where I am going to spend my last two transfers. If I stay here in Salado, I´ll be seeing my very first wedding here! Our awesome investigator is going to get married next Friday, and baptized on Saturday. She even came in the rain this week to church, with her slightly sick son, even though here, when it rains, NO ONE comes to church. Really. We only had half the members come this week.

Then, we are working with three other girls, two of which also went to church this Sunday during the rain.

YAYYYYY.

It´s been good to see this awesome success. I can really see how following the principles that Christ taught really change people. That´s how I know Christianity isn´t just a nice theory, and Christ wasn´t just a wise person. As humans, we can create a lot of things and learn a lot. But we can´t create the miracles that I have seen here. We just can´t do it. Only God can.

This week we are in Pedro Juan Cabellero, bordering Brazil. it´s really different here, but also very pretty!

Something I have learned this week:

God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, because our sins keep us from being close to God. God is pure and cannot tolerate anything that is not pure; we are not pure when we do things that are by nature bad or against the will of God. Therefore, we need to clean ourselves of what we have done bad, and we can only do that through Jesus Christ.

When he came here to the earth, immediately, we received the OPPORTUNITY to be clean from our sins. Two ways are set before us; follow God, or be disobedient.

“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

27 A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day:

28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.” – Deuteronomy 11:26-28

The “other gods” mentioned in this verse from the Bible can be many things. It can be drugs, money, or worldly comforts. It can be aspiring to have be the most popular, the prettiest, or the best grades. It can be focusing having a boyfriend or girlfriend, or having an nice car.Whatever thing we put in front of obeying and adoring God can be an “other god”.

I testify with all my heart the message of this verse. If we don´t put God in first place, than we will never be fully happy. He will always love us, but He can´t take away the consequences of our choices when we sin, as “wickedness never was happiness” (Alma 41:10), until we decide to repent and leave behind our sins.

WE have the power to decide if we get the blessing of God, or the curse.

I encourage you all to choose the blessing and not the curse. Evaluate your life and see what God is trying to tell you that you need to change, so that you can be worthy of the blessing He desperately wants to give to YOU, His beloved child.

And if you´re still not sure if He exists, I invite you to live the principles that Christ taught during His lifetime. Go to church, read the scriptures, try to love everyone, repent, and try to have faith. Just do a test run. I promise you that your life will change, and you will know He lives just as I do.

Love, Miclyn

Week 53-Mar 14

Dear Family and Friends,

How is everyone? I hope it is getting a little warmer up there. Here it is definitely cooling down, which is really a blessing.

This week, we went to almost every investigator with a member. We assigned members to pass by and bring the investigators to church.

How many came?

Not one.

BUT, don`t worry. God can see our work and can see that we are working so hard here. He really blessed us this Sunday. We had 3 wonderful members bring new people to church, one neighbor, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law that are not members. And every single one of them said they want to be baptized.

If that`s not a miracle of the Lord, I don`t know what is.

I think sometimes the Lord can see our struggles and our hard work, and even though He won`t bless us in the way we think, He will always bless us. Sometimes it takes months, or years, or sometimes, it will just take another transfer, but He will always reward us when we are faithful to Him.

Something I learned this week is that the joy of this work is far greater than the sadness. This week I had the opportunity of seeing a lot of the recent converts in the area come to church. As I went throughout the classes in the church and one by one saw more of the converts we have been working with enter the church, and felt such peace and happines to my soul. I know that this work is so important. Bringing souls to Christ is such a joyous and difficult process, but so worth it.

My companion and I are staying here in Salado for another 6 weeks. We are happy to be able to keep working here. We feel that the Lord really has something good waiting here.

On a side note, this transfer we are going to see General Conference, and go to the temple! We are all stoked.

I love you all.

Week 51-Feb 29

Querido familiares y amigos,

¿Qué tal su semana? Ojalá que todo bien. Esta semana trabajamos muchísimo y hablamos con muchos.

I know you all just opened up google translate to figure out what I just said 🙂

Anyways, this week really was a pretty good week. One cool thing:

We got a reference from a member yesterday and went to visit a family with 5 kids. They seem pretty cool….a little shy, but they already went to church once about a year ago. I hope we can help them go again!

Another cool thing: We were feeling a little down because we worked SO hard to get people to come to church this week, but we passed by for one investigator and she was sick. Our other star investigators suddenly moved to another city (yes….we were pretty sad about that 😦 Well, we did everything we coudld to help another family go to church, but alas, our efforts weren´t quite enough. BUT one of our awesome members brought her less active sister and her 13 year old son, and we had a great lesson with him and his cousin and put a baptismal date with him. SO we are really praying that we´ll be able to help this family come back to church and hlep this kid be baptised. He´s very sweet, and I can see that he has desires to choose the right.

Which, there´s a lesson for you all. Bring your friends and families to church! They are more ready then you think.

As for my thought for this week:

I have been thinking about testimonies this week. A testimony is something we know through the Spirit of God. This Spirit is how God communicates with us, and can guide us towards following the commandments of God and doing his will, but also, it testifies of the truth.

For example, before the mission I wanted to know if the Book of Mormon was the word of God (in addition to the Bible). So, I began reading it again and I started praying that God will help me to know if it was true. After diligent study, one night, super late at night, I felt the urge to pray right then in the middle of my reading. I did, and I felt a warm peaceful burning feeling. I can´t really describe it, but I know that it was the Spirit of God testifying to me that the Book of Mormon is also his word.

So now I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon. BUT that doesn´t mean I will always have this testimony, this knowledge of its truth.

For instance, as a prophet (a man who recieves the will of God through revelation and communicates it to all the people on the earth) in the Book of Mormon said, relating a story of a family :

“Netherless, becasue those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progresss in their journey; therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst, because of their transgressions.

43 And now, my son, I would that ye should understand
that these things are not without a shadow; for as our
fathers were slothful to give heed to this compass (now
these things were temporal) they did not prosper; even so
it is with things which are spiritual.

44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of
Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal
bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass,
which would point unto them a straight course to the
promised land.”

I testify of this. The words of Christ lead us straight to “the promised land” or living with God and our families after this life. But it depends on our diligence and our faith. We must not forget the spiritual experiences that we have had in the past. We need to be diligent and continually read the scriptures and go to church so that we can continue learning things from the Spirit of God.

I love you all!

con amor,

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 50-Feb 22

Dear Family and Friends.

So apparently some of my emails didn`t go through last week, so if you didn`t get one from me, I am so sorry!

Anyways, here is a rundown of the week:

WE bounced all over the place and went to three training meetings, which were fun….and very long!

We also have been privileged to see some progress in some of our investigators – of that, we are very happy! They have been reading the things we leave them to read in pamphlets and in the Book of Mormon. One of our investigators even said she “loves our religion!”

I wanted to say “Really? Great. See you on Sunday at church!” Unfortunatly, she has a store that opens on Sundays, BUT she said it`s possible that she`ll be able to attend this Sunday.

Anyways, it`s amazing what the Spirit can do for us if we just LISTEN to it! In all of these lessons with investigators, we have been putting emphasis in listening to their fears and doubts and questions, and having the lesson really based on that. It has yielded great results. I have literally seen the promise of the Lord fulfilled when he says that our mouths will be filled with the words to say if we just listen to His spirit.

I also learned some cool things from the Book of Mormon this week.

For one, I was reading the story of the sons of Mosiah. These were the sons of a king, who did a lot of bad things. But these sons one day had a miraculous experience, and came to realize that they were being disobedient to God. They repented and changed their lives, and dedicated the rest of their days to preaching repentance and baptism to other people.

Well, after 14 years of preaching of Christ, they ran into one of their old pals, and together they rejoiced! In fact, Ammon was SO happy, that he fell down to the ground! It says:

“Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happintess” (Alma 27:18)

Penitent means truly repentant. I really loved this scripture because I can testify that it is true. When we see that we are being desobedient to God, we will first feel SAD. But, when we really truly leave behind our sins and ask God for foregiveness, and we become completly obedient to God and his commandments, THAT is when we become TRULY, COMPLETLY, and UTTERLY HAPPY.

Later, Alma, one of the friends of the sons of Mosiah, states

“I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in thatwhich the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands ofGod to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

10 And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea, even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me” (Alma 29)

I testify that this is true. When I see people truly repenting, me included, I feel happy. And not just happy for a moment; I feel happy every day.

I was talking to my district leader this week (The mission in charge of the work in my area and a few others) and he told me that his last two baptism were references from members. He said that it was joyous to have the members present at the missionary lessons, and joyous that they could help their friends truly repent.

I want to encourage all of you to pray about someone you can invite to repent this week, someone who you can refer to the missionaries. I know that wea re surrounded by people ready to repent and change their lives, but WE have to be the once to invite them.

I love you all.

con amor,

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 48-Feb 8

Dear Family and Friends,

This week we got to start training the missionaries in all the zone here in Paraguay Asuncion North. We got to see the teaching styles of a lot of missionaries, so that was really fun!

We have also started up again with the divisions.

One thing that was great is that on a division, we went to find the reference the Elders gave to us of a part member family. After finding the house empty, we decided to go exploring way up behind the church. Well, after trekking down some obscure paths, we found a lady and her three kids. We had an amazing conversacion with her, in which she told us about her child who is living in a different country with her ex husband, her addiction to cigarettes that she can`t leave behind, and the struggles that she has been having with her husband. We were able to share a scripture and leave her a Book of Mormon, which she promised to read.

Although I have come to realize that not every golden contact results in a baptism, just the fact that we can give people some hope is really what God wants us to do. Because eventually, these people will understand that only through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints can they find a fullness of hope.

I testify of this with all my. The Church is the true church of Christ. It was restored through a prophet of God. When we follow the council of the prophet, we can know what God wants us to do, and we will be happy.

This I testify, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Con amor,

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 47-Feb 1

Dear Family and Friends,

To be quick,

This week we had transfers. I am staying in my area with my new comp, the Hermana Mera, from Mexico.

We had a great week, although a lot of lessons fell through, we were able to find a lot of new people who are interested. WE hope they progress! WE also got to receive and teach the new missionaries.

Sorry I don`t have more time!

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 45-Jan 18

Dear Family and Friends,

This week I had the privilege of traveling close to the Brazilian border. It was great to see the difference between the people and their living style there and compare it to here close to Asuncion. I just have to say, they live a lot more calmly up there. No one gets up before 7, and there is hardly any traffic! Although a good amount of people cross over the border every day to work in Brazil.

It was such an adventure to take a bus for 7 hours and travel up there. One funny thing that happened is that we got a flat tire on our bus at about 12 at night, so we were delayed returning to Asuncion. But other than that, it was smooth traveling!

This week though I learned a few very cool things. One thing I learned is the importance of the Trinity in our lives.

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we believe in God our loving Heavenly Father, in His son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. We believe that all three of them are separate beings, and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have their own separate bodies of flesh and blood. We believe that the Holy Ghost does not have its own body, and because of that it can help us feel the love of God and make good choices.

Now, I knew all of that before, but what I didn´t realize is how essential they are in our journey towards salvation. As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, a modern day apostle of the Lord said, “When we bring people into the Church, we baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. In doing so, we are leading them back to the presence of the Father through the ministry, Atonement, and grace of His Son,with the influence of the Holy Ghost guiding them to this goal. We must always keep uppermost in our minds this preeminence of the Godhead as both means and end as we undertake the work of salvation”

Really, our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are working together to lead us back to Heavenly Father! They are united in one purpose – our salvation.

They have laid out a plan with specific instructions, or commandments, that we need to fulfill in order to get back to our Father in Heaven. One of those steps is to become converted to the Lord. Conversion means to really follow God with all our hearts. To be exactly obedient to His will. This conversion “…can come only when there is the realization that He is a real being, an actual person, a literal Father of flesh and bone who speaks and sees and feels, who knows all His children’s names and all their needs, who hears all their prayers, and who wants all His children in His Church. These investigators need to know He has a plan for their salvation and that He has given commandments as to how we find our way back to Him” (Elder Holland).

I add my testimony to this. Heavenly Father really knows us. He sees our weaknesses and our sins, and despite it all, He still loves us so much. He loves us so much that no matter what you have done, or where you have been, as long as your are willing to change and repent, He has promised you full forgiveness if you are obedient to Him. He can heal you; He wants to heal you.

I love every single one of you so much, and I know that God´s love is only tenfold of that. I invite every single one of you to really pray to God this week. To really think of Him as a person and to really tell Him everything – the good and the bad, the funny and the sad. I know that is so doing, you will be able to understand better the love He has for you, and you will have the Holy Ghost with you, which will always lead you to the truth and the path of the Lord.

Con amor,

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 44-Jan 11

Dear Family and Friends,

Sorry for not writing last week.

This week we had a cool experience:

My companion and I went to drop our laundry off at a lady`s house right before going home for the night. We had finished all of our lessons and contacts for the day, but when we got to this member´s house, her neighbor was there. We began talking to her about the gospel, and found out that she would love to accept a visit from us and learn more. Although we didn`t have a ton of time, we decided to share a little message with her. We started talking, shared a scripture from the Book of Mormon, heard an amazing testimony from the member, and the she commited tobe baptized. I know with all my heart that we were supposed to meet that lady there at that time. I know that God works miracles and wanted us to meet this lady in that moment.

I love you all!

Hermana Miclyn Noorda

Week 42-Dec 28

Dear Family and Friends:

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you all had a very Christ centered Christmas, I know I did! I really remembered this year why we celebrate Christmas…that it`s not for the presents or the food or the entertainment, but it`s to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Think of the word Savior. Someone who saves people.

Christ really did something that no one else could do. He fulfilled the demands of justice and paid for our sins. I testify that through Christ, we can be clean of our sins. I know it. I have experienced it.

Now, we just have to decide if we want to accept that sacrifice and or reject it.In order to accept it, what do we have to do?

We have to follow the commandments. We have to make covenants with God (like be baptized, go to the temple) in His true church. We have to be obedient to His will and repent everyday in order to accept His sacrifice.

He doesn`t ask that much of us, considering He felt the pain of every single one of the bad choices we have made, we are making, and we will make.

With this new year, it is a great time to take a look at our lives and see what we can do better to follow the commandments of God so that we can really be clean again.

I love you all. I had a great Christmas, filled with food and fireworks and staying out until 11 (with permission, don`t worry!) for the first time in almost a year. It was great!

We also had a baptism this Sunday, I will try to send pics!

Con amor, Hermana Miclyn Noorda
